Mortgage Market Commentary

For the first-time in two years the Bank of England held the base rate at 5.25% over a 5-4 split decision, this gives relief to mortgage borrowers as the economy comes under growing pressure – the BoE hold is following 14 consecutive rises. The mortgage-market has responded as the SONIA ‘swap rates’ that lenders borrow from has remained stable and with the confidence of no further rate rises for the short-term; mortgage lenders are squeezing their margins by passing on marginal rate-reductions onto consumers.
